Our nation is facing a long-overdue reckoning with its history of oppression. The New Orleans Arts Education Alliance stands in solidarity with Black people everywhere in the collective fight for justice. We acknowledge that, while the arts provide joy in all children’s lives, the harmful impacts of systemic racism have resulted in inequitable access to arts education. These injustices must be faced and overcome with courage for the sake of our children’s futures. Fortunately we have many rich, creative histories of resistance and renewal to draw from through the work of Black artists, musicians and educators. Here are some Black Lives Matter resources for parents and teachers.
In addition to our BLM resource page, we now have a Directory of COVID-19 arts education resources on our website. Whether you’re a teaching artist looking for emergency grants, a parent in need of homeschooling help, or an arts administrator looking for distance learning support, we’ve got you covered! Please check back regularly since we’ll be updating the list often, and send any new resources for inclusion to firstname.lastname@example.org.
